RCMP in Okotoks say May-long weekend was a safe one.

A total of 50 tickets were handed out by officers from Friday to Monday17 for speeding and stunting and 21 for other traffic violations.

Okotoks RCMP Sergeant, Sukh Randhawa, says for the most part, people behaved.

"The majority of people were aware the RCMP would be out and about and most of the people followed the highway traffic safety rules," he says.

Last week the RCMP ran a safety campaign to remind motorists they would be out in full force over the long weekend, and Randhawa says the campaign worked.

"The less tickets we write, the better we are," he says.
