It may soon get easier for families in the province to find childcare. The province says a new survey shows the key to creating more spaces is providing more skilled workers... and may even get backing from Ottawa to do just that.
Penny Deeter owns High River's child development centre, and says rural families have an even harder time than those in municipalities.
She says there are no subsidies for children past the age of six meaning parents have to pay out of their own pocket.
Deeter says more childcare spaces could bolster the labour force in other sectors, by allowing stay-at-home parents to go to work or school.
