Dawgs topple Giants in Fort McMurray

The Okotoks Dawgs played their first of four games in Fort McMurray on Thursday night, toppling the Giants 10-2.

This was the third time the two teams were scheduled to play. The first two meetings were supposed to happen at Seaman Stadium this past weekend but due to poor weather, one game never got started and the other got postponed after seven and a half innings.

Gavin Wuschke got credit for the win after pitching for five full innings and only allowing a single hit. The Regina pitcher would also get three strikeouts while on the mound.

The first five innings would go scoreless as it was a defensive battle. The Dawgs opened the scoring in the top of the sixth, getting three runs in. 

Nash Crowell would step up at bat with Tucker Zdunich, Logan Grant, and Dawson Santana on base. Crowell scored Santana in with a sacrifice fly going up 1-0 at the top of the sixth.

Barry Eiseman was next at-bat, he got an RBI from a double to right field scoring Grant in for a run and giving the Dawgs a two-run lead.

 Lou Anderson got the third run across home plate after hitting a single to left field which gave Zdunich enough time to score the third run of the inning.

The seventh inning was all Dawgs again as they got another four runs in, taking a commanding 7-0 lead.

Zdunich started the scoring when he hit a double to centre field getting two RBIs after Santana and Grant both stole bases putting themselves in scoring position.

Crowell added to the scoring with a home run and scored Zdunich in for his second run of the game. Crowell would finish the game with three RBIs on the night.

Brendan Luther got the only run across home plate in the top of the eighth.

Spencer Sullivan and Jason Arriola added another two runs at the top of the ninth for the final runs of the game. 

The Giants broke the shutout in the bottom of the ninth with two runs, but it wasn't good enough as the Dawgs took it 10-2.

Okotoks will stay in Fort McMurray as they play their second of four games in as many nights tomorrow at 7:05.
