RCMP Cars 6

The RCMP is again reminding residents of steps they can take to reduce the chances of being a victim of a break and enter.

Constable John Rothleisler says first and foremost, lock it up.

"Remember to lock your doors, if you have alarms set your alarms, I mean that's easy, it's easy to lock your doors," he says. "A lot of us forget or just don't, so it makes it easy for these guys to just try a door and if it's open, in they go, so stay vigilant and be smart."

He says over-all High River is still a very safe community but there is a spillover effect of crime from Calgary and Okotoks.

Cst. Rotheisler says High River is still a small enough community that people should look out for each other and if you see someone, or something in the neighbourhood that looks out of place it's a good idea to call them so they can check it out.

A man from Calgary was charged this week after stolen goods found in his home were connected to four break-in's in High River and an elderly woman had jewelry stolen after a thief got in through an unlocked window..
