Sandstone Lodge's drive-by pie fundraiser is back.

It's become an annual Okotoks tradition, with locals pre-ordering pies and being handed them directly in the comfort of their own vehicles at a later pickup date.

The drive-by format is a holdover from when the fundraiser was launched a couple of years back, says recreation coordinator Meghan Smith.

"It started in 2022 as a way to do a fundraiser that was COVID-friendly. We thought 'Let's make some pies, and then people can just drive in and we can hand them out.'"

They're asking for a minimum $25 donation for the pies, with donators able to choose between apple and strawberry-rhubarb.

Then, a few days before Easter, people can drive right up to the lodge and pick their orders up.

The pies are all made by Sandstone's kitchen staff and residents.

"Some of the ladies at the lodge have made a lot of pies in their lifetimes, so they know what they're doing," says Smith.

"We actually had a gentleman who had never made a pie in his life, who decided to join us this year. It was fun to watch one of the ladies show him how to do it, how to pinch the pie and make it look all nice."

Donations from the fundraiser will go toward amenities at the lodge.

"We always have things that we would like, so last year we used it to buy new patio furniture for the outside porch. This year we're hoping to get a new piano, our piano is looking rather old. Depending on how well we do, we have a gazebo out on the back that overlooks the town and the mountains, it has a beautiful view but it definitely could use an update and some new furniture out there."

Preorders must be in palce by March 18, and the pickup days are March 26 from 1-5 p.m. and and March 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
