1917-2017

Elsie Earl was born August 8, 1917, the middle child of Jack and Florence Green, of Herronton, Ab. Her older siblings were Alice, Nellie, Clarence and Cecil. The younger ones were the twins, Leila and Leonard, Eunice and Sara. Elsie married Norman Earl in July, 1940. They moved to the Meadowbank district, seven miles southwest of High River, where they farmed. They ranched west of Longview and also near Dorothy, Ab. Together they raised a family of three children, Bill of High River; Janet and her husband Bob of Arrowwood and Harley and his wife Joan of High River. Elsie had 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Elsie was a “doer” her entire life; riding horseback, branding, fencing, driving truck at harvest, milking cows, raising chickens and turkeys, and grew a large garden – always with extra for family. Sewing and making her own clothes, and some of her children’s clothing, she was an industrious farm wife and mother. Elsie became a widow in 1987, but stayed in her farm home until she was ninety. She was a long time member of The Rebekah Lodge, The Meadowbank Community Club and the High River United Church. A Funeral Service was held at High River United Church, Monday February 27, 2017 @ 1:30. Interment following service at Highwood Cemetery, High River, AB. Reception followed at High River United Church Hall.
