The Flames had more luck putting themselves in the net behind Jonathan Bernier than the puck Wednesday night at the Dome as the Leaf's goaltender turned aside 42 of the 44 shots he faced as the Leafs downed the Flames 4-2. Photo Courtesy The Calgary Flames & flames.nhl.com

Despite out shooting the Toronto Maple Leafs 44-22, the Calgary Flames simply couldn't beat the Leaf's Jonathan Bernier as they fell 4-2 at the Dome Wednesday night.

The Leafs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first thanks to goals from Joffrey Lupul and James van Riemsdyk, shorthanded with four second left in the opening frame.

The Flames made it a one goal game at the 17:03 mark of the second period when Matt Stajan finally solved Bernier.

However the Leafs restored their two goal advantage early in the third on a Mason Raymond backhand that eluded Flames netminder Kari Ramo.

The Flames drew to within one again with five and a half minutes to go in the game as David Jones deflected a shot off the stick of Kris Russell, but with a six-on-four power play in the last two minutes the Flames couldn't keep the puck in their own end giving up the empty netter as Paul Ranger got his first of the year.

The Flames, who played a very good game against the Leafs will re-load and try again Friday night as they host the Detroit Red Wings.
