The High River Flyers get their 2016/2017 Heritage Junior "B" Hockey League season going August 26 to the 28 with their annual conditioning camp.

Team President, Mike Bliss says they call it "conditioning camp," but it's really more than that.

"Starting through next weekend and running through the first half of September, that's literally our training camp. That's when decisions are being made because the regular season starts early in September for us."

Bliss says they've already been scouting some potential Junior "A" castoffs.

"We were just up at the Calgary Canucks camp over the weekend. You know there's a lot of guys there. We're trying to create relationships with those Junior "A" teams. You know they can push some players our way, if they're not quite ready for Junior "A." That's a perfect situation for us."

The Flyers main camp will follow almost immediately on the heels of their conditioning camp.

The Flyers have anything but an easy schedule to start the season as they host the Cochrane Generals in their season lid lifter on Friday, September 16.

They head to Coaldale to face the Copperheads, the next night and then it's back home the following Friday, September 23, to square off against their biggest rivals the Okotoks Bisons in the first of four head to head match-up's for the teams this season.

Bliss says laughs about it saying it is what it is and you've got to play these guys sometime, so you might as well do it sooner rather than later.
