A pretty good weekend for Foothills Athletes at the Alberta 55+ games in Strathmore.

In all, athletes from around the Foothills pulled in 67 medals spread over two zones.

56 of those came from Zone Two athletes, which includes High River and Okotoks, and 11 more from athletes in Nanton, Stavely and Claresholm in Zone One.

Local athletes brought in 21 gold medals, 30 silvers and 16 bronze.

The Turner Valley Braves mixed slo-pitch team came home with a bronze medal after beating St. Albert.

Player-Coach Mickey Getten says they just couldn't get past the eventual gold medal winning Edmonton Squad losing to them 21-0 in the round robin.

Getten says the 55+ games will likely discontinue the mixed slo-pitch for the next games in 2017.

Getten says they still have hopes of playing in the 2016 Canada Summer Games.
