An amended secondary suite bylaw has received first reading by Foothills County council.

Reeve Delilah Miller says council and administration have increased the size allowed to 1,400 square feet.

It had previously been just under 1,000 square feet.

Miller says there had been a lot of complaints from residents who had modular or mobile homes as temporary dwellings and wanted to convert them to secondary suites.

The county had also originally required one parking stall for each bedroom in the suite but that's been changed to one stall for the entire suite.

Secondary suites are still not allowed in Priddis and Heritage Pointe.
