Foothills County is the latest municipality to acquire an electric ice resurfacer.

They’ve purchased an electric Olympia Millennium E Ice Resurfacer to replace their 2013 propane-fueled Zamboni at Scott Seaman Sports Rink.

The county received a $50,000 grant through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre’s Electric Vehicles for Municipalities program for the $178,000 purchase.

They’re one of a few local municipalities to receive the grant for an electric ice resurfacer, with the towns of Nanton and Okotoks having received similar grants in the last month.

Reeve Delilah Miller was quoted in a media release from the county.

“Foothills County is excited to utilize this new technology at our sports arena… With zero exhaust and the lower costs, it will be a vast improvement for all who visit this facility.”
