If you're looking to get out and try some ice fishing over the Family Day long weekend, you're free to do so.

'Free' as in, you don't need a fishing licence.

It's one of the two free fishing weekends offered up by Alberta Environment and Parks.

Okotoks even has a special 'Kids Can Catch' day planned for Saturday at Chain Lakes.

They're offering pre-drilled holes, hot chocolate and $1 hot dogs while they last but you do need to pre-register.

Reminder that all regulations must be followed.

Now if ice fishing isn't what your family is into then both the Bob Snodgrass Rec Plex in High River and the Rec Centre in Okotoks have events planned.

Okotoks will have the Rec Centre open from 8:30 a.m. till 4:00 p.m.

High River has a few different free options at the Rec Plex through the long weekend.
