Calling all gardeners! The High River Brewing Company is right in the middle of creating a new specialty beer, but are in some hot water after their supplier ran out of one key ingredient.

The local Brewery is now calling out to the community for support and donations of rhubarb.

High River Brewing Company General Manager Deanne Rapson, says the rhubarb will be boiled and added into their new Rhubarb Hibiscus beer.

"We're looking for anyone who can help us out with some nice fresh rhubarb because the beer that we're doing right now is rhubarb hibiscus and we need some fresh rhubarb that we can boil down and put into the beer mash."

Rapson says ever since their supplier ran out they're now grasping at straws taking it where they can find it.

"Our sales guy has some at his house but we didn't grow any here so now we're grasping at straws to get as much as we can. We'd probably brew a couple of batches of this particular one if we could."

Rapson says they'll need about 30 pounds more which will be enough for one batch.

One batch will create 7-10 50 litre kegs, and 5-7 30 litre kegs.

She says they would rather use the fresh stuff instead of going down the artificial path.

"It's just the flavour, it sometimes gets lost so you put a little extra in. We don't like to put any additives in our beers, it's all natural and with anything like this we want all natural fruit that's fresh grown and it just adds to the colour and the flavour."

What's in it for the gardener? Rapson says they can come into the Brewery and get a little sample or a beer in exchange.

The Rhubarb Hibiscus beer will be launched on August 31 at their River City Rock Fest event.

Donations can be made right in the brewery located at 510 - 21st Street south east or you can make arrangements to have your donation picked up by calling (403) 649-2002.
