Alberta RCMP is advising travelers to drive with extra caution today, as roads and highways across the province are covered in ice and snow.

Especially those travelling on Highway 2 between Airdrie and Red Deer.

Early this morning (April 17th), Innisfail RCMP were responding to several collisions and vehicles in the ditch between Innisfail and Bowden, due to poor driving conditions on Highway 2.

In Airdrie, RCMP, fire services, and EMS attended to multiple collisions on Highway 2, resulting in the closure of the Northbound lanes of Highway 2 and Highway 72.

RCMP was eventually able to reopen one of the Northbound lanes on Highway 2 at 40th Avenue in Red Deer.

Even though both Northbound lanes are open just North of Airdrie, it is still not recommended to travel unless it is necessary, as road conditions in the Airdrie area continue to deteriorate.

Alberta RCMP are reminding people to slow down and drive to the conditions of the road.

They are recommending people avoid travelling today if possible, and if travel is necessary, it's best to give yourself extra time to make it to your destination safely.
