Junior Achievement Southern Alberta has released a new 10-Year Strategic Vision.

The organization has been around for over 60 years teaching young people about entrepreneurship.

CEO Melissa From says there's been a lot of growth in demand for their programs and recognized it was time to look forward to seeing what the future holds.

"We talked to a lot of stakeholders," she says. "We had dozens and dozens of conversations and hundreds of surveys went out over six months to culminate in this 10-year vision strategy and there were common themes that came out of those conversations with educators, donors and business leaders in our community and what really came out was community leadership."

She says that means JA owning the role it has as a leader and expert in financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship training, providing support to educators so they have the tools they need to integrate these core principles into the curriculum and reach more students across southern Alberta.

"In Southern Alberta, we work with 27 school boards and every single school board was a part of this consultation process, we had one-on-one meetings with superintendents in the spring, we sent surveys out to educators, principals, assistant principals and school administrators, so we had a lot of folks from local school boards in High River and Okotoks that really fed into this," From says.

As of the end of the last school year, JA worked in over 130 communities across southern Alberta and has staff in places like Drumheller, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat serving a wider range of communities in their area.
