A class of kindergarten students made someone's day this week.

One of the fences at Ecole Percy Pegler School has been decorated with a "Take What You Need" display of toys, cards, and artwork for those in the community to choose a free gift.

Their teacher Kristin Whaley is touched by her students' desire to bring joy to Okotoks residents.

"It gives me goosebumps. It's been such a hard year this year, so I think it's just what we needed to bring us all together and to finish strong and kind of know that we did it. The kids are amazing."

She sought a feasible way for her class to make a community impact after one of her students talked to a parent about sending cards to people in the area.

The idea for the "Take What You Need" display came from another teacher Whaley was following on social media, Laurie McIntosh.

They were set up by 10 a.m. Wednesday and are pleased with the response so far.

"We had an email actually from a lady in a community who was just very grateful to see what we had done. It kind of made her day. She was going through a bit of a tough time, so she found a piece of art that spoke to her and took the time to email us.

"I shared that with the kids, and I hope they saw the impact of their kind deed today."
