The Foothills Regional Landfill is expanding.
Manager, Jon Deagle says the current site is almost at capacity so a new cell is required.
Deagle says the contract has been awarded and expects construction on the new cell to begin as early as next week.
According to Deagle, they are anticipating a completion date of July 15th, 2013, pending approval from Alberta Environment.
He says the project is expected to cost approximately one million dollars.
Deagle says with all the variables, such as increases in recycling and area growth, proceeding at the estimated rates, the landfill site has about 89 years remaining.
