The Little Britches Weekend continued on despite the rainy weather in true High River spirit.

The annual Little Britches Parade was by no doubt a success this year as the rain held up for most of the event.

All the floats triumphed through the downtown core in celebration of the Little Britches/May Long Weekend.

The newly built downtown core gave an aesthetically pleasing background for the parade and provided the crowd with a spacious area to spread out and enjoy the floats passing by.

All in all, by any indication the size of the crowd and the kids smiling faces as their buckets filled with candy proved that the Parade was a success on the part of High River.

Following the Parade were multiple events spread throughout the downtown core.

Thanks to the planning efforts on the part of Llana Malmberg, the day continued on to be filled with events for all ages to enjoy.

MP John Barlow and MLA Wayne Anderson both held barbeques following the parade to take part in celebrating the weekend.

Additionally, there were food trucks located on 1st street that were selling multiple treats and specialty foods for passerby’s to savour.

The United Church also held their annual International Food Festival, that included food from 10 different countries around the world.

This event attracted a large crowd and the general consensus was that the International Food Festival is something that cannot be missed!

Furthermore, the numerous buskers whose musical talents varied from the bagpipes to the vocals were a significant addition to the day and created a wonderful atmosphere for those who were out enjoying what downtown High River has to offer.

The Parade was followed by the Little Britches Rodeo taking place all afternoon Saturday and Sunday.

The contestants were all 15 and under and the events varied throughout the two days. Watching the Little Britches Rodeo was a great way to see the future of rodeo in the High River area and surroundings.

The events included Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Goat Tying, Team Roping, and the very entertaining Pig Scramble.

With these events you were witness to the triumph and loss the kids endured throughout their hard work.

Also on Saturday, was the Sun Country Cup at Rocky Mountain Show Jumping.

This event included some of the Sport’s Elite and they did not disappoint!

Additionally, the landscape beyond the arena provided a romantic setting for the event and added to the whole experience.

Overall, the horses were beautifully athletic and so were the riders.

This is an event not to be overlooked!

Altogether, Little Britches Weekend is one of the finest times in the Foothills to come and visit or to merely get out and enjoy your community!
