High River has seen a few small protests over Alberta Health's mask mandate.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says as long as they remain peaceful and respectful he has no problem with letting people have their say.

But he says residents who enjoy the town's events need to get vaccinated and get case numbers down.

"We were talking about it in council on Monday, talking about the Heritage Inn Balloon Festival and the Balloon Glow happening at the end of September, it's still up in the air as to whether that event is going to be able to go ahead or not," he says.

He says whether people like the rules or not the only way to get them to end is to bring the active caseload down.

"If you want these events to happen and you want your businesses to open up vaccinations are going to be very, very important and the case numbers, as we know, are extremely important in how they (AHS) make their decisions," the mayor says.
