The leader of the provincial NDP doesn't have a lot of faith that the government will look out for the interests of farm workers. He wants large farm operations covered by occupational health and safety standards.
Brian Mason says the minister of human resources has had plenty of time to deal with the issue.
He says in the minister's first year there were 20 farm accident deaths and over 1300 reported accidents.
Mason says since there's no requirement to report accidents that number may be low.
He hopes the leadership candidates will make farm safety an issue in their campaigns.
