The annual spring cleaning in High River is happening on Saturday, May 4th this year.

Heather Ross, Town of High River Special Events Coordinator, is looking for your support during this year's Green Sweep.

"We're asking for volunteers to come help clean up High River in our green spaces. This is our twentieth annual year. We're just asking volunteers to come in and around about 9 - 9:30 in the morning. We'll have coffee, hot chocolate for them, snacks for them before they head out for the day."

The event runs until noon and there's only one thing you'll need to bring besides your enthusiasm.

"Just show up. We just ask that you come down to the Rec Centre in the east parking lot. We'll be set up there, take registration. So, please bring gloves though but dress for the weather. Outside of that, we'll take care of you."

Once you're done cleaning up a complimentary brown bag lunch will be provided back at the east parking lot of the Rec Plex.

Tipping fees for residential waste will also be waived from May 2-4 at the Foothills Regional Landfill.  Household Hazardous Waste tipping fees will also be waived for quantities under 20 litres. You must be a High River resident to qualify.

The Alberta Recycling Management Association will also be on hand in the east parking lot of the Rec Plex accepting the following items.

  • Small appliances: microwaves, clocks, fans, hair dryers, heaters, irons, toasters, shavers, vacuums
  • Electronics: televisions, computer monitors, desktop computers, servers, laptops, notebooks, tablets, keyboards, mice, computer speakers, cables desktop printers, scanners, fax machines, photocopiers, and multifunction printers
