The dangerous intersection of 594th Ave and 88th Street East will soon be much safer for drivers.

The M.D. of Foothills plans to install solar-powered flashing stop signs, in hopes the reduce the number of drivers who run the stop sign, be it accidental or not.

Division 1 Councillor Ralph Nelson believes more needs to be done to improve the safety of the intersection.

He says "we did put stop signs there and more signage, but it's still not enough. I'm hearing from some of the local residents that people are still driving through that intersection."

Councillor Nelson adds that if all goes well, the flashing signs could be installed as early as a few weeks from now.

Improving the safety of the intersection has been an ongoing issue since the 2010 collision that took the life of a High River businessman.
