The new "Schools For Tomorrow" plan recommends $3.17 billion in new spending over five years. Education Minister Gene Zwosdesky unveiled the plan which recommends money for 82 new or replacement schools over five years, at at cost of $1.4 billion.
Included are new public schools in Okotoks and High River and a new Catholic school at Heritage Heights.
The report also recommends another $900 million go into major renovations for more than 70 existing schools including Percey Pegler and John Paul II Collegiate, both in Okotoks.
The minister concedes it will be up to the next premier and his cabinet
to decide whether to follow this blueprint to clear a major backlog of school projects.
