Okotoks Town Councilor, Laurie Hodson, says he'd like to see more women taking a stab at local politics.

Hodson is advocating for a more diverse council that would include more than the one woman currently sitting on it.

He says one of the biggest hurdles to jump is  to "de-mystify" the election process therefore getting more women to want to run for office.

"It's really a matter of encouraging, facilitating and having more women in my community come to an electoral process and then letting the citizens make the judgement."

Hodson says women have a different way of looking at problems which would make for better, more informed decisions on Town Council.
