Okotoks' Percy Pegler school will be home to a nature-based learning program in the fall.

One of the instructors, Ryan Lemphers says the program provides students with a chance to connect their education to the outdoors.

"We try to get the kids outside for at least two full days a week to engage in their learning," he says. "We've found that there's a huge benefit to how they learn and for some kids, it makes a real difference."

He says students are welcome from throughout the division.

"It's a full-time program here in Okotoks at Percy Pegler school, so because it's an alternative program they can come from anywhere, the only challenge is that they do need to provide their own transportation," Lemphers says. "Our office is going to kind of help coordinate carpooling if people are interested, if we have four families from High River then the office can be like 'hey we have four families from High River you guys can get together here's your phone numbers and maybe you can coordinate a pickup schedule so you're not having to go back and forth'."

Lemphers says parents throughout the Foothills School Division can find out more through a couple of ZOOM meetings, one of which goes Thursday, February 25 at 6:30 p.m. and another on March 11, 2021.

He says there's no limit to registrations at this point but they'll see how they're doing and adjust grades accordingly.

For information on registering or taking part in the ZOOM meetings check out the Percy Pegler web site.
