New-Foothills-Riding
The new Foothills riding (Elections Canada)

It's never easy saying good-bye.

That's the feeling of MacLeod MP Ted Menzies who's seeing some changes to the constituencies' boundaries with the new electoral map.

The redrawing of the map has been finalized and Menzies will lose some part of the County of Vulcan and some long-standing relationships there. "Some of these constituents that are going to be moved into what we now understand will be the Bow River riding are friends, I've known them for years and represented them for, coming up for nine years on the 28th of June and they're going to be in a new riding."

The Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Alberta set the new boundaries so that each district contains roughly the same number of people while also taking into account communities with the same interests or historical patterns.

Alberta is getting six new seats in parliament, three in southern Alberta.

The new ridings will go into effect with the call of the next federal election.
