The Okotoks "AAA" Midget Oilers hit the ice for their training camp after the Labour Day long weekend.

They have a new Head Coach behind the bench this year with the hiring of Ken Plaquin, who says he's no stranger to Okotoks hockey.

"I coached the minor midget Rockyview Raiders last year, so I've been coaching in Okotoks for the last four years at the Global Sport Academy. And I know a lot of these kids and I know the association pretty well. So, I'm not super new to it, even though, it is the second year for the team, so everything is still kind of new."

Plaquin says he has high expectations for the club heading into the season.

"We should have a fun team to watch. Great goaltending. A really good defensive corps returning and some good scoring punch. Fun kids to watch up front. I have high expectations, but we'll just kind of see how things fall into line for us hopefully."

The midget Oilers open their training camp Tuesday, September 4, and host their annual pre-season tournament starting Thursday, September 13.
