With the recent hot temperatures in Okotoks, and more on the way, the Town is asking residents to be even more mindful than usual of water conservation.

Infrastructure and Operations Director, Dave Robertson, says the 30-plus degree weather last weekend really took a toll on the water supply, as nearly 25 per cent of the reservoir was used up over the weekend.

He says the Town can bring in 12,000 cubic metres per day, and on Sunday alone, 15,000 cubic metres of water was used.

"We need to get a handle on this," Robertson says. "We really need folks to adhere to the watering schedules, and the times, and make sure they're watering on their correct days, because we're trying to manage the flows."

He says if locals don't comply with the regulations there might be more restrictions coming.

"If we had to, we would be forced to go to one day a week watering," he says. "Or eventually a full-out ban if folks don't adhere to the watering schedules and for the most part the community is really good."

He says having the extra water in reserve for other town needs is crucial.

"It's really important that we maintain the reservoir levels from a fire protection point of view and for domestic use within the house.
