Thanks to the generous support of Albertans in the Foothills $10,323.79 was raised for the Parkinson Association of Alberta in April.

Last month was Parkinson Awareness month and CEO Lana Tordoff says it affects more people than you would expect.

"We know that one in one hundred adults will be diagnosed with Parkinson disease over the age of 60. It's a significant number second only to Alzheimer's."

And the awareness and financial support last month was greatly appreciated.

"We really saw that people were attaching themselves to that message and seeing themselves in it or somebody they love and we were able to raise just over $10,000."

Tordoff also says creating more awareness is extremely important.

"There's over 10,000 people right now living with Parkinson disease in Alberta and yet we only have in the neighbourhood of 3000 clients."

If you or someone you know has Parkinson there are many supports through the Parkinson Association of Alberta.
