Very Reverend Obrad Filipovic stands in front of the road his church would like renamed.

The Serbian church in De Winton is on a mission. The church would like to rename 243 Ave to Tesla Road after Serbian electrical engineer and physicist Nikola Tesla.

Tesla is best know for his contributions to modern AC electricity supply systems and is a source of Serbian pride.

Very Reverend Obrad Filipovic, of the St. Simeon Orthodox Church, says Telsa left a huge impact on the world.

Inside St. Simeon reflects Serbian culture.
"He is one of the most recognized geniuses of the world and one of the most accomplished scientists to walk the planet."

The M.D. of Foothills has denied three separate petitions to change the name of the road but Filipovic says they won't give up.

"Within our church we'll be calling the road Nikola Tesla even though it's not official," he says.  "Maybe with more signatures and support from the surrounding neighbourhood we might be able to accomplish this down the road."
