The track at the Calgary Stampede was more like a mud bath on day 8 of the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby where the Stampede Aggregate was on the line.

It was do or die for drivers as they looked to secure their spot in the top eight at the semi finals today.

There was an emotional moment as Kirk Sutherland won the Richard Cosgrave Memorial Trophy for the first time ever after making the best 8-day aggregate time of 9:58:99.

High Rivers Jason Glass claimed a spot to compete in the top eight but Okotoks Mark Sutherland will watch from 9th place and Jordie Fike also from High River will be looking in from 11th.

End of day results saw John Walters taking the day money with top run of 1:16:17.

Semi-final Saturday at the 2016 GMC Rangeland Derby goes tonight at 7:30pm.
