With May here plenty of High River Residents are starting to look west to check out the snowpack.

High River's Manager of Emergency Management Peter Genereux says so far the snowpack is below average.

"Generally this year, comparing it to previous years, what our normal's are and even last year. Snowpack is trending to be actually quite below normal for most of the year. Over the last couple of years it has trended back up, just getting into the normal range."

Genereux says he's in almost daily contact with the Province over river levels as we draw closer to flood season.

"Chatting with our counterparts with river monitoring and Alberta Environment and Fisheries, they have been noticing that it's actually below normal and they're keeping a pretty close eye on that to try and maintain river levels."

Genereux says it's still early and there hasn't been much run off yet.

He says, like every year any potential flooding is going to come down to rainfall, not snowpack alone.

Genereux says they have links on the Town's website so anyone can monitor the snow pack and river levels.
