It’s the biggest game in European football and residents of Okotoks and south Calgary can’t wait for the big show.

The 2024 UEFA European Championship final takes place Sunday in Berlin with the opening kick slated for 1 p.m. MDT.

Spain is trying to win its first title since 2012 while England is vying to hoist the trophy for the first time ever. England’s only other men’s international championship came in 1966 when they hosted and won the FIFA Men’s World Cup.

Fans of both sides will be flocking to different pubs and bars to watch the historic match. One of those places is Kildares Ale House in south Calgary.

The popular pub is a huge supporter of Cavalry FC and offers shuttle buses to those games. Staff there say they're expecting a tremendous crowd for Sunday's Euro Final.

Throughout the European tournament, which started on June 14, bars like Kildares have been busy with fans of all backgrounds watching the games, with more coming for the knockout matches.

Meanwhile, The George Traditional House in Okotoks will also be showing Sunday’s final and staff are already preparing for a packed house.

About 20 reservations have already been confirmed so far, with just a handful of reservations remaining.

The game will be showcased on the large projection screen with dozens if not hundreds of England soccer supporters coming by.

Some of those supporters have been at The George for every England game with more fans coming in to watch the quarterfinals and semifinals.

The George is holding a free pre-game BBQ before the big event from 11:30-12:30.
