While summer feels like a long way off during a cold snap in February, The Venue in High River is already planning for summer.

They're looking for a few more good acts for the Summer Performance series.

Secretary Lori Koehler says thanks to a grant from the Calgary Foundation they're able to expand the number of entertainers they bring to the stage.

"This will be our sixth year of our Summer Performance series and we have hopefully 12 Saturdays, that we have done before, but we're going to extend it to 20. So, we are doing Saturday afternoons and Saturday evenings."

It's not just musicians they're looking for.

"So, we've had theatre, we've had poetry, we've had a circus and I think our circus is coming back if we can make that fit again this year."

If you'd like to be one of those gracing their stage you need to get your submission in before the deadline of February 28.

The first performance is scheduled for Saturday, June 10.

Local Junior and High School Jazz bands will once again kick off the Summer Performance series as they have since the onset.

The Open Air Art Gallery is also coming back again this year for the second time.

Their Tech mentorship program is also open for applications and Mark Milligan will be teaching it again this year as he works the sound and lights.

They're also planning on a few new things happening this year too.

Koehler says they're bringing the Community Piano back out once it warms up and they're planning on working with the annual Highwood Lions Music Festival.

Something else up their sleeve is they're working on having a new mural designed and painted at The Venue.

They're also working on a Film Makers Challenge this year. It's a project with the Okotoks Film Festival (OFF) and the Foothills Community Immigrant Society (FCIS). It will be similar to the OFF's 24 or 48-hour movie-making challenges, but it will be spread out over a much longer period as people will be trained and helped with the development of their film.
