High River Town Council has approved School Age Care Directors Association of Alberta's (SACDA) annual Lights on Afterschool Alberta initiative.

With the approval, April 19 will become Lights on Afterschool Alberta Day with landmarks being lit up with yellow and blue lights.

The goal is to "shine a light" on the positive impact out-of-school care programs help create for families, children and communities across Alberta.

SACDA hopes that it educates people on the impact they make and have some focus on improving recognition, availability, affordability, accessibility and quality for their sector and the educators that are involved with them.

Last year saw landmarks like the Calgary Tower, High Level Bridge in Edmonton, Medicine Hat's Tepee, and many others light up with yellow and blue lights to show their support.

The lights will be on before and after school starts on April 19.
