Hi I'm Maddie Nesom your Sunshine Patrol host for 99.7 Sun Country!

The Bar U Ranch had their first event of the year Saturday May 20-21, celebrating Hometown Heroes. The weekend was all about those who were in the First World War, along with the animals that were in the effort as well.

As well as showcasing the First World War I got to meet a couple amazing people that came to the event from Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) Regimental Society. I spoke with Peter Jones who aims to promote the vehicles that were used in World War Two such as the Sherman M4A2E8 tank, they call Catherine. They want to showcase these historic vehicles at parades, displays, charity's, and other events. I also had the opportunity to speak with Cpl Greg Dobson who is with the Strathcona Mounted Troop. They are an authorized volunteer display unit, who perform musical rides with twenty horses, and twent-five members.

There were different activites you could take part in such as shooting at the range with air rifles, making your own cowboy coffee, going inside the Sherman tank, listening to music around the campfire, and carriage rides around Bar U Ranch.

I couldn't believe it was my first visit to Bar U Ranch. I look forward to their Chuck Wagon Cook Off and Pack Horse Race June 18th, Father's Day weekend!
