It was do or die for the CFR AAA Midget Bisons in game three of the Alberta Midget Hockey League finals on Friday night.

And it took five periods for the teams to battle it out, in the end CFR "AAA" Midget Bisons were finally victorious 4 to 3 over the Leduc Oil  Kings.

Now they just need to do it all over again in Leduc on Sunday, March 26.

Coach Sandy Henry said they seem to be making a habit of close games in this series.

"We got the first goal and then they came back, and they have been pretty relentless that way," Henry said.

They had two or three good opportunities in overtime, but it took two periods to get the puck in the net.

"We stayed with it and we got that one we needed. We concentrated on getting the pucks to the net, in overtime anything can happen."

"We got a puck to the net and got a deflection and beat that goalie finally."

The end of the second period was a little exciting as the Oil Kings got a goal with 44 seconds left on the clock putting them in the lead, but the Bisons dug deep, turned around and got a goal to tie the game with 16 seconds on the clock.

"That was a big one for us to get back on even ground going into the third period."

He added it was quite the flurry of action at the end of the period and it was representative of what the series has been like.

"There will be bursts of scoring then we will go long, long stretches where either the goalies are making amazing saves or it's really tight."

The team is off to Leduc for another must win game at 2 P.M. Sunday, March 26.

"We are still down 2 (games) to 1 so we have to win."

Henry says he's used up all his speeches and is looking to dig more out of his bag of tricks, but his best advice for the team is to keep it simple and be patient.

"We have to stay composed and make the plays that are in front of us."

The winner of the AMHL goes on to play the winner of the B.C. league.

Then the winner of that best-of-three series goes on to play for the Telus Cup in Prince Georrge B.C.

"If you can get out of the league you probably have another month of hockey to play," Henry said.

Right now the CFR Bisons need two more wins to make that happen.

If the Bisons win in Leduc they will be back in Strathmore for a Monday night game, March 27 game, at 8 P.M.
