Former High River Mayor Eldon Couey is being remembered as a man who embodied High River.
His daughter, and current Town Councillor, Cathy Couey says her dad had a jam packed 88 years.
"He sure did. I think he would look back on it and have none or very few regrets and be very thankful for the life he had and probably more than anything all the people that were in his life."
Couey says her dad was the person to '"go to" for advice for those looking to run for office in High River.
"I have certainly heard from other people who have taken on the role, like Emil Blokland, or Craig (Snodgrass) and others that when they were preparing to step into a role like this went to him seeking his advice on how to move forward in that role. And we've certainly heard a lot of that over the last couple of days."
Couey says her dad was a very straight talking man, who never shied away from telling you what he thought.
"He certainly never skirted around anything and you know what? I think he probably felt that if you approached something and you dealt with it head on, it certainly didn't escalate and get out of hand. And it was done and dealt with in a much better and shorter fashion."
She says her father was also a good listener, who would always want to hear what others thought before making decisions.
Eldon Couey, was High River's Mayor from 1989 to 1998.
A celebration of Couey's life goes Wednesday, January 16, at 1 o'clock at the Highwood Memorial Centre.
