Cycling Without Age is set to kick off their second season in High River this Saturday, June 1.

The program uses trishaws to take seniors out for scenic bike rides in the town.

Volunteer, Caitland Asmundson says the idea came from one man in Denmark.

"Cycling without age is a movement that started in Denmark in 2012, where a gentlemen named Ole started taking seniors on Tri-shaw rides around the city.  He saw how much the rides enhanced their quality of life and since then, the movement has spread world wide."

Asmundson says this year, the program is open to any senior in the community.

"In the past it was mostly for seniors who were living in Seasons, or the Manor.  We do take residents living on the second floor of the hospital as well, which is really cool!" She adds "This year though, we're opening it up to the whole community so any senior can take a ride."

You can keep an eye out for the trishaws and their fun loving passengers at this years Farmers Markets, as Asmundson says they've set up a schedule that would allow them to pick up seniors and bring them to the markets.

"This year we've scheduled every other Thursday for the bikes to be used at the Farmers Market." Asmundson says "On the days where we're not stationed at the Farmers Market, the trishaws will be available to folks in the Medicine Tree Manor and Seasons, where they can schedule a pilot to take them down to the farmers markets."

There is one thing the public needs to be aware of though, as trishaws may have to share roadways with regular traffic.

Asmundson says the key place where this may happen is on the bridge, as that's the only area the bikes are able to cross from the North side of town into Downtown.

"We do just ask motorists to have some patience and share some kindness as they share the road.  We ask that they remember that our pilots and passengers are just trying to have a nice friendly ride!"
