Prime Minister Stephen Harper's early election call has sparked a lot of conversation across the countrymost of it negative.

The 11-week campaign is set to be the longest, and costliest in over 100 years.

We spoke to Okotoks residents about the election, and the consensus seems to be that the early call is unnecessary.

"I think it's really unfortunate that Prime Minister Harper didn't put into perspective what it's going to do to the rest of the country," Heather Seear says. "The length is too long, and the cost is going to be far too much."

Another resident, who asked to remain anonymous, echoed the same sentiment.

"I think it's too early and too expensive," she says. "Too much money wasted when there's so many poor people in the world, and in Canada."

One resident, who also asked to remain unnamed, went as far to say the election is a lose-lose situation no matter what.

"I don't believe there's a good candidate no matter how you look at it, because even what they say doesn't have any merit," he says. "Not one party's actually proven they can do what they've actually said, there's very few politicians you can actually trust in the world."

Canada goes to the polls October 19th.
