Fighting rural crime and making a difference is the goal of a meeting in Okotoks on Tuesday, April 10.

The MD of Foothills is hosting the meeting which will have four rural crime watch groups along with RCMP members, politicians and justice department representatives on hand

MD of Foothills Councillor Suzanne Oel says it's a chance for rural residents to work together on solutions.

"We would certainly like to have as many people out as we can." said Oel. "To have an excellent dialogue and give people the opportunity to create those partnerships and share information to assist us with creating a better defence of personal safety and rural properties."

She said one of the goals is to increase membership in the four rural crime watch associations that will be in attendance.

"And then increase information flow. Maybe even get some more volunteers involved come up with a next step so if there are some things we can do to lobby."

It is also a place to share ideas on how to protect your property.

The meeting gets underway at 7 p.m. at the Foothills Centennial Centre in Okotoks.
