High River's council meeting this week starts with a public hearing.

It was set after a bylaw amendment allowing for a Land Use Bylaw change for the Highlands in Spitzee Crossing, received first reading at the last council meeting.

Changes include aesthetics, long term ownership and maintenance of public spaces and vehicle access on the west boundary

The cost sharing agreement between the Spitzee Crossing landowners must be finalized and signed by all parties before the subdivision of any land within Spitzee Crossing may be applied for.

The public hearing starts at three Monday afternoon in the Council Chambers.

Council will also get an update on homes and properties in tax arrears.

There are 46 in total with seven properties in arrears for five years or more owing about $64,000.

Council will be asked to authorize administration to proceed with a tax recovery process for 33 of the properties which are behind for two or more years.

And a couple of issues directy affecting council will come before them.

Council and the Mayor will be presented with a report on remuneration.

Both the Mayor and Councillor's compensation is slightly below the median average.

There's just one per diem rate which is above the median half-day rate but well below the median full day rate.

They are not expected to make any changes but to have administration prepare a report.

They will also look at a formalized policy for Swearing In ceremonies.
