The coronavirus has made its way to High River.

The Director of Rural Health for the Calgary Zone of AHS, Lise Brisebois-Blouin says there has been a cluster of positive cases in the town.

"We do have a positive case, a resident on our long term care unit, that sits in our High River hospital," she says. "And we do have a few cases of staff who are positive, who may, or may not live in the community of High River."

She says a staff member who worked at the hospital in long term care tested positive.

"We were informed that a staff member who worked on our long term care who had tested positive, so as soon as we got that information our whole unit went on lock down and everybody was put on isolation," she says. "That's a bit of an extreme precaution from the point of view that we're sure that not all 50 residents had been in contact with this staff member. But because we could identify the ones that he definitely had been in contact with, but we were not sure who else the staff member might have been in contact with, we decided that it was in the best interests of all of the residents to be in isolation."

All patients are being isolated and staff are donning new protective gear for each patient they see.
