The High River and Area Garden Club hosted a Seed and Plant Exchange last weekend.

Organizer Melanie Collison says the club came to be after the 2013 flood to help people rebuild their gardens, and it has been growing ever since.

"Mostly it is a social event that is about contributing," said Collison. " The Facebook page is pretty active, anything anyone can do to help somebody learn about gardening is welcome."

The club started after people from Lethbridge brought plants to High River after the flood.

"People gathered up about 1000 plants to donate to High River, so that we could recreate our gardens after the flood. Their generosity was astounding."

In the fall after the flood Collison started the gardening club so people could start to get on top of the flood instead of feeling victimized by it.

This was the sixth plant exchange, the group is always growing.

"It is entirely about contributing. Some people have plants and seeds to contribute, lots don't but they can bring baking, they can carry heavy  plants that some can't."

She is hoping that the club continues to grow to including many people from the Foothills area.

"If we could have one big gardening community from Claresholm to Calgary and Millarville to Vulcan. We have people from all over coming to this event."
