The High River Baptist Church hosted a banquet for single Moms last night and invited guest speaker and former Calgary Stampeder Defensive Back Keon Raymond.

He says his hopes were to give the Moms hope and encouragement, because he was also raised by a single Mother.

"The inspiration that my Mom was to me and me being an adult now, I felt that they needed to hear that even though their kids are young now there's no limit to what they can become if they strong and courageous."

His wife Bianca attended with him and says she's seen him speak at other events, but this one was more near and dear because he was raised by a single mom too.

"I think it was even a little bit more vulnerable for Keon, a couple times he got pretty choked up and I thought the waterworks would begin but it was really good."

She says she had a chance to speak with a lot of the single moms at the end of the evening, and said it gave them hope and courage for the future.

Keon gave an emotional speech about his experiences growing up with his Mom who was also a single Mother, and says he felt the women in the room would understand.

"This was a room full of Moms and women are so receptive, understanding and emotional that they could understand where I was coming from so I opened myself up and knew this was something they needed to hear."

Aside from the gourmet dinner Moms enjoyed some substantial door prizes like a $500 gift card from Timothy Fred, and everyone walked away with individual gift bags stuffed with treats to pamper themselves.

The event was coordinated by Jack knight, Chaplain for the Calgary Stampeders, Calgary Flames and the Calgary Roughnecks.
