High River council has decided to put 33 homes and properties up for auction because the taxes haven't been paid for two or more years.

Chief Financial Officer Kola Oladimeji told council Monday, since first bringing a list of 84 residential and two non-residential properties to council in March, 25 have paid in full and 15 have entered into a payment plan.

Forty-six are still outstanding and 13 owe less than a thousand dollars.

Eleven properties are in arrears for three years, totalling $54,698, while seven properties are in arrears of five or more years totalling $64,031.

The Town's communicated with the owners of the 33 properties but has not heard back from them.

A total of $175,752 is still owed on the back taxes.

The single largest property is behind by $31,277.

The properties can come off the list at any time if the owners contacts the town to make arrangements to pay the back taxes.

Though council's decided to put the properties up for auction there are still several steps to go through before an auction would be held on May 1, 2018.
