Aquatics Centre open house coming next week

The new designs for the Aquatic Centre Expansion at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex will be available to view at an upcoming open house.

The proposed design would double the space and extend its use for another 40 years. There are plans for a beach leisure pool, a lap pool, water slide, sauna and a centralized lifeguard office.  There would also be a new lobby space with a lounge, exercise and child-friendly areas.

However, there was some recent controversy surrounding the design of the change rooms.

The initial design has one common change room with private stalls that has met resistance with some of the public.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass said privacy and safety concerns have been addressed.

“The change room design incorporates a common locker room with private change stalls. Open changing will not be allowed in this new design,” said Mayor Craig Snodgrass. “The stalls are full height for maximum privacy and can be used by any individual. Overall, this design supports the Town’s priority to ensure resident safety as the layout allows easy monitoring by the patrons and staff of the common area. Aquatic activity programming will be staggered so that change room use does not exceed capacity.”

Due to public feedback alternate change room designs will be available to view and discuss.

The Town welcomes your feedback at the Open House on Tuesday October 17th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cargill Fieldhouse in the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex.
