High River celebrated Tim Horton's Camp Day in a big way yesterday, Wednesday, June 5th.

Owner, Kevin Generoux, says the money goes to sending underprivileged children to camp to help build their self confidence.

Yesterday's Camp Day event included live music from recording artist Shane Chisholm, a visit from Harvey the Hound as well as Wildrose MLA, Danielle Smith and High River Mayor, Emile Blokland.

Members of the RCMP, High River Fire Department and of course some of the folks from 99.7 Sun Country, who broadcast live throughout the day, were also on hand to help out.

Generoux says the rough estimate to send a child to camp for 10 days is about $1000 to $1500 dollars.

For High River, he says, we as owners, were able to select a couple of kids and we know they will be going to  camp in Ontario.

The cost includes the plane flight and an all expenses paid stay at the camp, that includes a pool, telescope, archery, horse back riding and activities everyday that to help build up a child's confidence, he explains.

He says, "it's meant to be a once in a lifetime or even life changing experience for a child who may otherwise never leave their town."

"They get on a plane and go by themselves, and they are between the ages of 9 and 12 so there a little scared, and they come back confident and ready to take on the world and know that there is unlimited possibilities and that's what its all about."

According to Generoux, the High River location raised $2,700 before Camp Day through donations with the rent-a-tent or a cabin campaign, and yesterday, in just donation alone, raised just over a $1,000 dollars.

The average location, according the Generoux, raises $900 so he says "High River we are awesome!"

In coffee sales yesterday, of which 100% goes to Camp Day, they raised another $2500 dollars.

In total the High River Tim Horton's raised $7011.62 which is possibly 7 kids now that we can helped change their life.

Generoux says "we can't wait to do it bigger and better next year."

If you still want to contribute you can drop your change in the designated boxes anytime throughout the year.

He says they will also provide tax receipts for any donations over $10 if you do it in person.
