Newly elected Livingstone-Macleod MLA Chelsea Petrovic has tendered her resignation as mayor of Claresholm.

She's been on unpaid leave since March 28 due to her candidacy in the provincial election.

Petrovic was elected as mayor in 2021 and had to resign 19 months into her term due to her new role in the UCP caucus.

In her stead, current deputy mayor Brad Schlossberger has been filling the role.

A by-election is to be held in Claresholm, with the date to be determined at the June 12 meeting of the Claresholm town council.

The town confirmed they'd received her resignation, effective as of May 30.
