Residential property owners can get some help as part of the 10th annual Community Green Sweep is coming up Saturday, May 3rd in High River.

Volunteers will be cleaning up green spaces around High River and new for this year, residents are able to submit their own property, or a neighbours', to receive volunteer yard work assistance.

“This is the tenth year we have been holding this event and we want it to be bigger than ever,” said Tracy Lamontagne, event organizer for the Town. “We know there are a lot of residents that haven't had time to work on their yards, which is why we decided to add residential property requests to the list.”

The Town is looking for volunteers to assist with raking, seeding, mowing, planting and general clean-up of both public and private green spaces. Individuals and groups wishing to volunteer are encouraged to register online at www.highriver.ca by submitting a form describing the hours they can work, number in group, and any tools they have available.

Residents that want to submit a property to receive yard work assistance are asked to visit the events calendar at www.highriver.ca and submit a work order form to the Town.

Work requests are limited to a maximum of one hour and will be filled based on the availability and the skill level of volunteers.

As in past years there will be a free breakfast and barbecue lunch as well as other giveaways for volunteers.

The clean-up runs from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and volunteers are asked to meet at Ecole Senator Riley Middle School at 338 1st. Avenue S.E.. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled to May 10.
